The Spanish/Japanese psychological thriller debuted in August 2020. The first season followed a group of scientists who isolate themselves at an Antarctic research station over the winter to do research on climate change.

Come spring, the entire team was either dead or missing, and it was up to the summer commander, Johan Bergk to figure out who the killer was and to try to save his wife, Annika Lundqvist, who was one of the winter researchers.

The Mediapro Studio confirmed earlier this year that John Lynch and Katharine O’Donnelly will be reprising their lead roles as biologist Arthur Wilde and young doctor Maggie Mitchell for Season 2.

The pair will be joined by other actors as their story continues, with Jorge Dorado returning as the series’ director.

Season 2 of The Head is produced by the Mediapro Studio in association with Hulu Japan and will stream on HBO Max in both Spain and America.

Series creator Ran Tellem is back as executive producer. Also returning are executive producers Laura Fernandez Espeso, Javier Méndez, Bernat Elías and Mariano Baselga, who serves as head writer as well.

Playwright Jordi Galcerán, Isaac Sastre and Cauê Laratta make up the rest of the writing team.

Newsweek has everything you need to know about who has joined the cast for Season 2 and the characters they are playing.

The Head Season 2 Plot

Season 2 has the two survivors from Season 1, Wilde and Mitchell, boarding the Alexandria, a scientific cargo ship that has a major laboratory. There, Wilde, who has escaped from jail, attempts to carry out a crucial mission for humanity’s survival in the fight against climate change.

The appearance of a decapitated head, however, soon interrupts his research.

An eerie trailer has been released for the upcoming episodes and features the tagline “In the middle of the ocean, there is nowhere to run.”

The episodes were partly shot on a real cargo freighter in the port of Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands.
