When is The Letter for the King out on Netflix?

The Netflix release date for the series is Friday, March 20, 2020, when the show will be released at one minute past midnight PT. When The Letter for the King is released in your country will depend on your time difference from the west coast of America. The first season of the show consists of six episodes, all of which will be released at once onto the streamer.

Who is in the cast of The Letter for the King?

Leading the cast is young squire Tiuri, portrayed by Amir Wilson, last seen playing Will Parry in the BBC/HBO version of His Dark Materials. This year, the actor will also star in a new film version of the classic children’s book The Secret Garden, though the release date of that movie has been delayed due to coronavirus.

In a ScreenRant interview, the actor said of his character: “The best way to describe him is he’s an underdog. He’s an outcast in Dagonaut, where he comes from, and I guess he goes on this journey to discover something new about himself.”

Along his quest, he meets Dutch actor Gijs Bloom as Prince Veridian, of whom Bloom said, “Viridian wants to save the world in his own way, and he believes that the ends justify the means.”

One of his closest allies, meanwhile, will be Lavinia, who actor Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (National Treasure) called “a fiesty young woman.”

Also appearing in the show in smaller roles are The Mummy’s Omid Djalilli, The Lord of the Rings’ David Wenham and Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia.

What will happen in The Letter for the King?

The official Netflix synopsis for the show reads: “When a ruthless prince threatens to cast the world into darkness, a young knight in training named Tiuri (Amir Wilson) embarks on an epic quest to deliver a secret letter to the king.

“Along the way, he unexpectedly finds himself at the center of a magical prophecy foretelling the rise of a hero who can defeat the prince and restore peace. If he’s going to survive the journey, Tiuri will have to learn what it means to be a true knight—and a true leader. The story is based on the best-selling novel of the same name and also stars Ruby Serkis, Thaddea Graham and Gijs Blom.”

The Letter for the King showrunner Will Davies said that he had updated some elements of the 1962 novel to appeal to a modern audience. He said: “I think when I did read the book in Europe that summer, it was the height of the Syrian refugee crisis. The news was filled with these horrendous images of people trying to get to Europe and making it to Europe and then seeing how all the European countries were conflicted about it. We adapted [the story] in the light of that whole thing.”

The Letter for the King is released on Friday, March 20 on Netflix.
