So far, Netflix has not announced another season of The Letter for the King, though fans of the show should not be alarmed about its future quite yet.

The streaming service usually waits at least a month before announcing more seasons of its shows, so that they can base their decision on the data they get about how many people are watching each show. They then compare this data with how much a show costs them to make in order to make their decision.

Though we do not have official word about The Letter for the King Season 2, the show itself seems to set up a second season with its cliffhanger.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the ending of The Letter for the King

After the ending of The Letter for the King saw Lavinia (played by Ruby Ashbourne Serkis) use her magic to seemingly defeat Prince Viridian (Gijs Blom), the ending of the season seemed to suggest that the prince had used some of his own dark magic to stop himself from dying.

In the final moments of The Letter for the King, a flock of birds forms the shape of Prince Viridian in the air, suggesting he will return to cause trouble for Lavinia and Tiuri (Amir Wilson) in Season 2.

Though in the first season Tiuri manages to deliver that eponymous letter to the king, leaving fans to think that the story is over, the book the Netflix show is based on actually continues past the delivery of the letter.

After Tirui delivers the letter in the Tonke Dragt book, we follow Tiuri on his equally perilous journey back home. Although the Netflix series has taken some major liberties with its source novel, Season 2 conceivably could follow the book and see Tiuri return home—though with the added threat of a resurrected Prince Viridian to worry about.

If The Letter for the King does get a Season 2, it is expected to have a release date in 2020—though the production delays throughout the world caused by coronavirus could push the show back into 2021.

The Letter for the King is streaming now on Netflix.
